TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama Baseball bounced back after a tough loss Sunday with a gritty 8-7 win over Troy.
“I didn’t think we were outstanding tonight, but we found a way to win,” coach Rob Vaughn said.
The Tide capitalized on the Trojan’s defensive woes early in the game – at the bottom of the second and third – by throwing errors and trying to turn double plays allowing Evan Sleight and TJ McCants.
In the fourth, Gage Miller scored one on a sacrifice fly to left. Troy came back in the middle innings with a two-run single by Brooks Bryan to cut into the lead. In the sixth Peyton Watts gave Troy the lead with a solo home run to right.
Kade Snell pitched this past weekend and came through with the bat with a two-out two RBI single, the first in a Crimson Tide uniform. The Trojans would not quit in the seventh with RBIs from Bryan and Blake Sutton to retake the lead.
After the seventh inning stretch, the Tide put together a big inning when Eblin, who went three-for-four in the game, smoked an RBI double off the wall in right to tie it up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Portera. The knockout punch was given by Gage Miller, who hit a moonshot to left field, which was home run number six on the season.
“I love being here, I love this team and I’m excited for the future for this group,” Eblin said.
Zane Adams got the ball for Alabama, and had looked sharp, getting soft contact outs keeping the ball in the yard. Adams was able to tally 4.1 innings of work, allowing two runs, allowing five hits and striking out four.
“Some things went a little better for him and were able to minimize damage, get some swing and misses, and went out and gave us a chance to win,” said Vaughn on Adams’ outing.
The Tide were able to use a barrage of pitchers after Adams, with Tyler Fay, Austin Morris, Braylon Myers and Alton Davis II going 4.2 innings as a group tallying three strikeouts but giving up four runs. Myers added win number one in the season, and Davis II got save number two on the year.
Up next for 12-1 Alabama is the last non conference weekend series before SEC play, with Lipscomb coming to town. First pitch on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network +.
