TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball was dominant on both sides of the ball Sunday, earning the series sweep over South Carolina.
Alabama heated things up immediately in the top of the 1st, with Kaylee Tow dropping a RBI single into right field, driving in Ashley Prange. Bailey Dowling extended things for the Tide with an RBI single to center field, Jenna Johnson drove in a run on an infield single, making the score 3-0 in the top of the first.
At the top of the 4th Kat Grill kept things rolling driving in Johnson from second on a chopper up the middle 4-0. Montana Fouts kept the Gamecocks bats silent until the bottom of the 4th allowing the only run on a bases-loaded walk. Dowling smacked a hard single off the wall with the bases. Ally Shipman dropped an RBI double in the left field gap at the top of the 6th, making the score 6-1.
Fouts tied her career high with 16 strikeouts, her fourth career 16 K performance, and now has eight double-digit strikeout performances this season and 36 over her career.
Shipman extended her multi-hit game streak to 11th of the season. Alabama’s next game of the season is on Tuesday, March 29 vs. Alabama State – Tuscaloosa, Ala. – 6 p.m. CT at Rhodes Stadium.
