Alabama men’s golf loses 4 & 1 to Auburn in the East Lake Cup Finals on Wednesday.
The Tide fall short in the finals for the second straight championship after a triumphant semi-final victory against the No. 1 Oklahoma State Cowboys 3 & 2.
In the first match, head coach Jay Seawell put out senior leader Davis Riley, at his request to go first, in order to try and gain momentum for the Tide. Riley faced Auburn senior Trace Crowe in what would be a rematch of the 2018 SEC Championship where Crowe defeated Riley 2 & 1.
The two seniors were grinding around the course where par was good enough for victory in seven holes. Crowe would go on to win the first match in the same fashion at Sea Island, for a 2 & 1 victory to put the first point on the board for the Tigers.
The Tigers would go on to win the next two matches with Jacob Solomon defeating Davis Shore 2 & 1 and Brandon Mancheno defeating Prescott Butler 3 & 2 to claim the East Lake Cup.
Alabama and Auburn would split the last two matches with Alabama’s Wilson Furr defeating Jovan Rebula 2 & 1, and Wells Padgett beating Frankie Capan 4 & 3 for the Tiger’s fourth point.
The East Lake Cup completes the 2018 fall golf season for Alabama and will start the spring in the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 17-19.
