Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The University of Alabama gymnastics team had several reasons to celebrate following a 196.700 – 196.400 win over the Auburn Tigers.
The Crimson Tide honored its seniors, Abby Ambrecht, Angelina Giancroce, and Ariana Guerra before taking the floor against the 12th ranked Auburn Tigers. All of the seniors performed well, with Ambrect posting a team and career-tying high score of 9.900 on the balance beam, while Giancroce posted a career-best 9.850 in the same event.
However, the night was Guerra’s, who posted three 9.950 scores on the vault, bars and the floor, which happened to all set a new career-best for her.
The Tigers held a slim lead going into the final event for both teams, but a strong showing on the floor led by Guerra, Ambrecht and junior Maddie Desch who posted scores of 9.950, 9.925 and 9.900 respectively, helped to propel the Tide over Auburn and kept the Tigers from claiming a part of the SEC regular season title.
Alabama Gymnastics will look to sweep the Tigers in Birmingham for the Elevate the Stage competition on March 9th.
