TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After suffering a disappointing loss in 3 sets to the South Carolina Gamecocks just under 24 hours prior, the Tide came out with renewed energy. They took the second match of the series against South Carolina with a sweep of their own (27-25, 25-22, ???).
After a slow start, the Tide trailed 9-11 early in the first set. An ace by graduate student OH Abby Marjama put Alabama up 14-13. A service error by the Gamecocks tied the score at 19 for the Tide to again draw even in set 1.
A kill by sophomore OH Sami Jacobs put the Tide in good position as she made the score 23-21. The Tide took set 1 27-25 after fending off a Gamecock set point.
An early attacking error by South Carolina put the Tide out to quick 10-5 lead. A big block by the Gamecocks gave them the edge after battling the deficit, leaving the Tide trailing 16-17. A kill by junior OH Kendyl Reaugh put the Tide up 22-18. The Tide then took a two set lead, winning the second 25-22.
Another attacking error by the Gamecocks leveled set three at 9 apiece. A block by senior MH Alyiah Wells put the Tide ahead 15-14. As the teams continued to trade points, a Tide attacking error forced an Alabama timeout, down 18-19.
A big kill by sophomore OH Sami Jacobs gave the Tide a 23-21 lead. The Tide completed the sweep in a 28-26 marathon third set.
With the win, the Tide improves to 9-16 (3-10), securing their third win in the SEC.
