TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– The Crimson Tide defeated the Texas Longhorns 5-4 in front of a sold out Rhodes.
Montana Fouts started the first game against the Texas Longhorns. She started off the first inning with two strikeouts and leaves a runner stranded. In the bottom of the first the Tide lit things up quickly with Dallis Goodnight getting a base hit then stealing to second.
Ashley Prange was walked, which led to Ally Shipman bringing in two runs off a hit an error in one play. Kaylee Tow kept the ball rolling with an RBI single up the middle bringing Shipman home making it 3-0 at the end of the 1st inning. The Longhorns fought right back with a two-run home run at the top of the 2nd inning 3-2 Tide.
Prange got things rolling for the Tide at the top of the 3rd with a lineout double play followed by a ground out to in the top of the inning. Goodnight led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and was brought home by Shipman on an RBI double 4-2 Bama. The Longhorns refused to go down without a fight, hitting another two-run home run at the top of the 4th.
Bama took the late lead at the bottom of the 6th against Texas with a solo shot to left field by Megan Bloodworth making the score 5-4 Crimson Tide. Bama won the game at the top of the 7th, with Fouts ending the game with two strikeouts and a fly out to 1st. Fouts finished the game with nine strikeouts.
Coach Patrick Murphy spoke on freshman Bloodworths hitting saying, “It’s awesome if you guys were at practice everyday she does that everyday seriously, so it’s not like a surprise to us but it’s really cool to see; it’s a pressure situation for a freshman to do it it’s pretty cool.”
Saturday’s game against Texas kicks off at Rhodes Stadium at 2:30 P.M. CT.
