Tuscaloosa, Ala.- After losing to Arkansas Saturday afternoon, Alabama volleyball won the opening set Sunday but the Razorbacks held on and won the next three sets, with scores of 25-21, 17-25, 20-25, 20-25.
Arkansas (17-6, 8-4 SEC) had an early 10-6 lead against Alabama (10-16, 2-12 SEC) in the opening set, but eventually the Tide responded with five unanswered to take an 11-10 lead. The set had seven tie scores that led the set to be tied at 17-17, with Alabama taking the lead with a 4-0 run to make the score 21-17.
The Tide reached set point first at 24-19, with the Razorbacks scoring back-to-back points to draw within three, which led the Tide to call a timeout. A kill from Kendyl Reaugh on the next serve led Alabama to a set win of 25-21.
In set two, the Tide were the first to score, but the Razorbacks came back with four points in a row maintaining the lead until a media timeout was called at, 15-9. After the timeout, Alabama scored three points to cut the score in half, but Arkansas stretched their lead to six and won, 25-17, evening the match 1-1, forcing a fourth set.
The Razorbacks started out with an early 5-1 lead in the third, after Alabama wasted an early timeout, which gave Arkansas their early lead. The Tide would draw as close as two points throughout the set, including later in the set at, 22-20, before the Razorbacks closed it out scoring three points in a row to win, 25-20, taking a 2-1 match lead.
Even though Alabama scored first in set four, neither team led by more than three points until Arkansas reached set point at, 24-20, leading the Razorbacks to another victory over the Tide on the final serve, winning 25-20.
Alabama will be on the road Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 to Knoxville, Tennessee, for a two-day matchup against No. 22 Tennessee. Both matches begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.
