This years Boston Marathon was rougher than usual with cold temperatures and brutal rain. Mary Shertenlieb, a leukemia survivor running the marathon to raise money for a cancer hospital, felt these conditions to their extreme. At mile 15 of the 26.2 she would run, Shertenlieb had to stop. She went into a medical tent freezing and her husband suggested that she shower and warm up and return to finish the race. Shertenlieb was strong enough to beat cancer and she was strong enough to finish the Boston Marathon. Her and her husband returned to the spot she stopped and at 12:18 am, about 13 hours after the start, Shertenlieb became a Boston Marathon finisher.
