The Alabama Crimson Tide women’s basketball made a strong push in the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament this weekend, securing two impressive wins before falling in the quarterfinals to the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball.
Alabama opened the tournament against the Missouri Tigers women’s basketball team. Alabama controlled the pace throughout the game and secured a 65-48 victory, advancing to the second round.
In the second round, the Tide faced the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and delivered one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Alabama led for nearly the entire game, powered by strong scoring performances from Jesseca Timmons and Ta’Mia Scott, who combined for 43 points.
Alabama secured the 76- 64 win, pushing the team into the quarterfinal round.
Alabama’s run ended in the quarterfinals against Texas, with the Longhorns earning an 83-60 victory. Texas jumped out to an early lead in the first half, and the Tide struggled to keep up offensively. While multiple Alabama players contributed points, Texas’ depth proved difficult to overcome, bringing Alabama’s run in the tournament to an end.
Despite the loss, Alabama showed great improvement throughout the Tournament. The win over Tennessee marked a major moment for the team against a historic SEC program. The Crimson Tide demonstrated strong defense and balanced scoring across the tournament and now waits to see the possible postseason opportunities that may lie ahead.
