In Game 3 of the SEC opening weekend series, No. 17 Alabama completed a three-game sweep of No. 19 Texas A&M with a 2-0 road win in College Station. Much like Game 2, this one was defined by a pitcher’s duel. Bobby Alcock and Myles Patton were both outstanding, though one had to take the loss. Alcock delivered his best start of his career, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out a career-best eight. Braylon Myers was dominant in relief, retiring all six batters he faced to secure his first save of the year.
“Great weekend for the boys. We challenged them on Friday to be the toughest group on the field and they rang the bell,” said Alabama Head Coach Rob Vaughn.
For Alcock, his seven innings pitched and eight strikeouts set new career highs for the redshirt senior. At times, he was nearly untouchable. He struck out four consecutive batters between the third and fourth innings and retired eight straight across the fourth, fifth, and sixth
Kade Snell powered Alabama’s offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and a statement solo homer in the eighth. His three-hit performance marked his team-leading 12th multi-hit game of the season. Will Plattner also came through at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a clutch RBI double in the sixth to break the tie. Coleman Mizell added a 2-for-5 effort, while Richie Bonomolo Jr. and Jason Torres each recorded a hit.
With this win, Alabama improves to 20-1 on the season and 3-0 in SEC play. The Tide’s sweep of the Aggies marks their first conference-opening road sweep since 1973, when they took down Mississippi State in a two-game set. It also stands as Alabama’s first sweep of Texas A&M since 2021, which also came in College Station.
Offensively, Will Hodo and Richie Bonomolo Jr. extended their season-long on-base streaks to 21 games, while Kade Snell pushed his to 18 games.
The Tide pitching staff continues to deliver in the biggest moments. Alabama’s arms limited Texas A&M to just four hits, holding the Aggies to a 1-for-9 mark with runners on base and 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Aggies managed multiple baserunners in just two innings, the first and fourth, but couldn’t capitalize.
“Our arms were outstanding all weekend and the boys competed their tails off in the box. Proud of the effort, but we have to keep growing…now on to South Alabama,” said coach Vaughn.
Next up, Alabama returns home to Sewell-Thomas Stadium for a Tuesday night matchup against South Alabama. Following that, the defending national champions and No. 2 Tennessee Volunteers (20-0) come to town for a highly anticipated three-game series. Game 1 is set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will be nationally televised on ESPNU. The series continues on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the finale on Saturday at 1 p.m., with both games available for streaming on SEC Network+.
