OXFORD, MS. – Behind a great start from Grayson Hitt (3-0), Alabama (21-12, 7-5 in SEC) defeated #7 Ole Miss (19-12, 4-8 in SEC) by a final score of 7-3 on Sunday.
Hitt pitched six and one-third innings, giving up three runs off three hits with eight strikeouts. The Rebels were able to hit two solo home runs off Hitt, but the left-hander was able to get through it.
“This was another great, well-rounded performance by our club today. Grayson Hitt gave us the best start of his career” said Head Coach Brad Bohannon.
Alabama was able to score four of their seven runs in the final three innings, all off home runs. Tommy Seidl hit a solo home run in the seventh, followed by an Andrew Pinckney home run to make it 5-3 going into the ninth. Looking for insurance, Zane Denton hit a two-run home run to center field to put the cherry on top, as Alabama held on to the 7-3 lead.
“We are getting offensive production up and down the lineup, and we are playing with great energy. I’m really happy for our kids.” added Bohannon
The bullpen was also a major contributor to the win, with Hunter Hoopes and Landon Green coming in for the final two and one-third innings, only allowing one hit and no runs, with three strikeouts between them.
With the win, Alabama has now won eight of their last nine games and is tied for second place in the SEC west. With this series sweep as well as the series win last weekend against Texas A&M, Alabama has won their last two SEC series for the first time since 2018.
Alabama now turns their focus to Belmont on Tuesday before a big weekend series against #1 Tennessee in Knoxville this upcoming weekend.
