Friday was a good day to be named Sydney.
Junior right-hander Sydney Littlejohn (13-2) controlled the game while sophomore transfer Sydney Booker gave her some needed defensive support at shortstop in No. 6 Alabama softball’s 2-1 win over No. 1 Florida in Gainesville.
Booker went 1-3 on the night. She drove in both of the Crimson Tide’s runs even though she only claimed one of Alabama’s nine hits. Junior Chandler Dare went 2-4, and eight of Alabama’s nine batters recorded a hit.
Defensively, Booker made a diving catch at short and doubled off a runner in the bottom of the fourth.
Littlejohn earned her third SEC win. She pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits. She walked three and struck out two.
Sophomore right-hander Alexis Osorio earned her fourth save of the year after coming in on a 0-1 count to Florida leadoff Kelsey Stewart. With one out and a runner on first, Osorio forced a fielder’s choice to get the leading runner. She struck out Nicole DeWitt to end the game.
Alabama (30-6, 4-3 SEC) faces Florida (33-2, 8-2 SEC) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The final game of the series is Sunday at noon.
