After 132 pitches and zero hits, Tyler Fay completed the first nine-inning no-hitter for an Alabama pitcher since 1942 as Alabama (16-7, 1-3 SEC) blanked #18 Florida (19-4, 3-1 SEC) with a score of 6-0.
“That was something that I never imagined,” Fay said. “I didn’t even do this in high school when they weren’t quite as good.”
The last pitcher to record a solo 9-inning no-hitter was Eddie Owcar, when he led Alabama to a victory over the Ole Miss Rebels in 1942.
Fay recorded 13 strikeouts against the 29 Gator batters faced. Walks in the 2 nd and 6 th innings were the only blemishes in his otherwise perfect game.
Head Coach Rob Vaughn praised his pitcher’s performance postgame.
“It came on the heels of a time where, call it what it is, we needed it.”
This victory versus the Gators snapped a four-game losing streak and gave the Tide its first conference win.
The Tide offense also had a stellar day, erupting for 10 hits and six runs against Gators starting pitcher and projected first-rounder Liam Peterson.
“Offense did a great job,” Coach Vaughn said postgame. “[They] are finally playing the brand we’ve been looking for against a big leaguer.”
Seven out of the nine Tide starters recorded a hit Friday. The starting outfield tandem of Bryce Fowler, Brady Neal and Justin Osterhouse were the only Alabama players to record multiple hits, getting two hits apiece.
Alabama was able to clinch its first SEC series win of the 2026 season the following day, beating the Gators on Saturday, 8-4.
The Tide (17-7, 2-3 SEC) will face off against Florida (19-5, 3-2 SEC) one more time in Sewell-Thomas Stadium at noon CDT on Sunday.
