TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Crimson Tide women’s basketball team will begin next season under new leadership.
One day after the Tide were eliminated from the second round of the NCAA tournament by the Louisville Cardinals, Head Coach Kristy Curry announced she was leaving to take the head coaching position at the University of South Florida.
“Coach Curry did a commendable job with our women’s basketball team over the last 13 years,” Athletic Director Greg Bryne said on X Tuesday. “We appreciate her contributions and wish her and her family well moving forward.”
Curry had coached the Tide since 2013. Curry had won 20-plus games with the Tide in each of the last five seasons and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament in the last three seasons.
“Coach Kristy made this program way better than it was when she started,” Senior Guard Jessica Timmons told reporters after the Louisville game.
Curry had just signed a contract extension with Alabama in July of 2025 that was set to keep her with the Crimson Tide until 2030, paying her $700,000 per year.
Alabama will also lose three out of its five key starters. Senior Guards Karly Weathers, Jessica Timmons and Ta’Mia Scott will all graduate in May and never have another chance to wear the Crimson and White jerseys.

“This has been four of the greatest years of my life,” Weathers said. “I will always say that Alabama is the greatest university in the world. It has made me a better player and for sure a better person.”
Alabama has begun a national search for the next head coach, per A.D. Greg Bryne.
