On Tuesday morning Cam Robinson and Laurence “Hootie” Jones were arrested in their home state of Louisiana.
The arresting officer’s statement published by AL.com said he detected the smell of marijuana as he approached Cam Robinson’s vehicle at 2:33 a.m. At this point he found a handgun in Jones’ lap.
After removing the players from the car a bag of marijuana and a stolen hand gun were found in the floorboard of the car on Robinson’s side and under his seat respectively.
“We are aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken,” coach Nick Saban said in a statement also published by AL.com.
At this point Jones, a safety, has primarily contributed on special teams. Robinson however, had started all 29 games for the Crimson Tide at left tackle since he set foot on campus. Multiple reports suggests Robinson was a first round draft pick if he left Alabama at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
