As a slight breeze rolled in with clear skies, the Alabama football team strapped on pads for the first time during spring football. It practiced outdoors as former players Derrick Henry and A’Shawn Robinson, as well as SEC Network analyst and former LSU player Marcus Spears looked on.
Outside linebackers ran with straps around their waists that were held back by teammates to improve leg strength and speed. After several short sprints, the group transitioned to drills that involved changing direction and getting around stationary dummies.
Rashaan Evans worked with inside linebackers for the third straight time, as the group worked on lateral quickness with defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Players, including Reuben Foster, then changed gears to practice picking up loose balls after fumbles.
The quarterbacks, such as Jalen Hurts and David Cornwell, worked on throwing deep balls over the middle to wide receivers and back shoulder throws.
Wide receivers started out the viewing period working on short throws and catches while moving across the field, but they later transitioned into running routes with quarterbacks.
After working with safeties for the first two practices, Tony Brown was seen practicing with the cornerbacks and head coach Nick Saban. The cornerbacks practiced changing direction while back-pedaling when covering a receiver.
The safeties, such as Ronnie Harrison, worked on attacking players with the ball, running up and delivering hits.
The running backs ran through drills that involved staying low and running under bars. Players like Damien Harris and Bo Scarborough did drills that concerned footwork when first receiving the ball. …read more
