Since the “Game of the Century” back in 2011, Alabama has dominated the season series against LSU. Alabama continued its winning streak against the Tigers on Saturday with its 24-10 win.

Player of the game: JK Scott

Punters usually are a footnote of a game, but JK Scott made the difference against LSU. Scott finished with 413 yards, and constantly flipped the field in favor for the Alabama defense. He finished with an average of 51.6 yards a punt, which is 6.6 yards more than his career average. Five of his eight punts were more than 50 yards, while he pinned LSU inside its own 20-yard line six times.

“I just wanted to punt well for my team and I was looking to do anything I could to help us win,” Scott said. “I’m thankful we came away with a victory, and I’m glad I could contribute to that.”

Plays of the game:

LSU punter Zach Von Rosenberg pinned Alabama on its own 10-yard line. The duo of Jalen Hurts and Bo Scarbrough proceeded to drive down the length of the field before Hurts threw a four-yard strike to tight end Irv Smith Jr. for the first touchdown of the game.

After Alabama punted for the second time in three drives, LSU had its best field position of the game, starting at its own 39-yard line. LSU quarterback Danny Etling threw just one pass which was picked off by Ronnie Harrison. He returned it six yards before being tackled.

“I was on the running back, so I figured he was going to be on a short route, and I just broke on it,” Harrison said.

Key to the game: Sacks

Alabama and LSU are both very capable of getting to the quarterback. But Alabama got there more, especially in the second half. The Crimson Tide finished with six sacks, which is more than any game since it sacked Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen in 2016. Freshman Dylan Moses led the way with 1.5 sacks.

“I think once you create passing situations, it’s a little easier to put pass rushers in the game,” head coach Nick Saban said. “A lot of the plays we tried to generate pressure, they spread it out on us … We have to do a better job.”
