The Alabama women’s tennis duo of Erin Routliffe and Andie Daniell lost a first-round match in the doubles main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Thursday in Pacific Palisades, California.

Routliffe and Daniell fell to North Carolina’s 14th-ranked pairing of Hayley Carter and Jessie Aney, 8-6. The Alabama duo was coming off a win from the ITF 10K LTP Charleston Championship in Charleston, South Carolina. The two were attempting to win for the second time in as many events to open the 2016 season.

In the singles main draw, Routliffe, ranked 18th nationally, handily defeated No. 108 Alex Valenstein from Texas Tech, 6-1, 6-0. Routliffe will face Carter in the round of 16 on Friday at 12:45 p.m. CT. The winner will advance to play in the quarterfinals at 4:00 p.m. CT.
