Alabama men’s golf finished in ninth place at the 2016 Carpet Capital Collegiate this weekend, with an overall score of 10-over par 874. Virginia took first place with a 13-under par 833, finishing six strokes ahead of Auburn’s second place team at 839.

Sophomore Davis Riley posted the highest finish for the Crimson Tide in the tournament at 19th overall. His last round of a 3-under par 69 is his 10th career-round shooting in the 60s and the eighth time he has finished in the top 20 in 13 career tournaments.

Junior Lee Hodges and redshirt freshmen Josh Sedeno and Alex Green played in their first tournament for Alabama and had overall finishes of 30th, 45th and 74th, respectively.

“This will absolutely help our experience,” said coach Jay Seawell in a press release. “We have a young team this year. We had good practices leading up to this tournament, but we are just inexperienced.”

The men’s golf team will travel to Chicago, Illinois next weekend, Sept. 16-18, to compete at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Challenge.
