Before Alabama softball starts SEC play, it will get a small taste of what’s to come with Samford coming into town.

Samford’s head coach Mandy Burford played for Alabama from 2004-07. Assistant coaches Michelle Moultrie and Erin Arevalo played for Florida and Georgia, respectively. So far they’ve led the Bulldogs to an 11-7 record, including wins over South Alabama, UAB and Jacksonville State.

β€œIt’s the SEC versus the SEC,” Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. β€œI’ve talked to her [Burford] a couple times and I really think that she thinks that this is her best team coming in. They’re capable of doing some good things, getting to a regional for sure. It’s going to be fun. It’s a later game, on television. Hopefully, we’ll have a good crowd.”

After a 4-1 weekend, the Crimson Tide fell two spots in the rankings. No. 6 Alabama (20-2) hosts Samford on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
