The Alabama Women’s golf team left Hilton Head, South Carolina as winners of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate winners for the third time Sunday with a 54-hole total score of 868, coming out to 15 over par.

The No. 4 Crimson Tide earned an 8-over 292 score Sunday, including a once held 10-stroke lead, to close out the tournament to seal the team’s first tournament win of the spring and second of the season.

“It was a little bit of a rough start,” coach Mic Potter said. “We three-putted a couple times early and Emma Talley doubled No. 3. It always worries me when she’s not in the ballgame for us. But she battled back and made a couple of birdies, so we had five girls all playing fairly well. Nicole Morales’ final round of even par was really big for us, and then Cheyenne winning the tournament. I can’t say enough about those two.”

An even-par 213 score and a one stroke lead by Cheyenne Knight captured the first individual tournament win for the freshman. On Sunday, Knight felt the pressure to finish strong while remaining even on the front nine before recording one birde and two bogeys on the back nine.

“I just tried to stay focused, take it one shot at a time,” Knight said. “I can’t control what the other competitors are doing. I really just tried to stay in the moment and not get too ahead of myself. I really hit some good shots and good putts on the back nine.”

The team will next compete in the 2016 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia golf course in Athens, Georgia beginning Friday, April 1.
